Yoga accessories, Mats and Pants

Welcome to yoga-teacher-training.com! This site is intended as an information tool for both teachers and students of yoga. It can connect you with a teacher in your area, explain the usefulness of things such as yoga mats and accessories, and even explain some of the basic principles behind yoga.

Yoga is a popular method of relaxation and focus. It is a great counterpoint to the modern lifestyle with all of its tension and stress. Yoga promotes centeredness and focusing on the moment. Both of these ideas are brought to yoga from its beginnings in India. Both Hinduism and Buddhism heavily influenced the history of yoga.

What benefit can staying in the moment provide us today? Well much of the stress derived from a modern lifestyle is due to our thinking and planning ahead rather than dealing with things as they come to us. This is not to say that you should never plan for the future; that is necessary and a sound thing to do. But when you are spending all week obsessing about a presentation that’s going to be given on Friday you’re crossing a line. When your weekend is ruined because of a report that’s going to be assigned Monday you are no longer planning for the future, you are squandering the present worrying about something that you cannot control.

Yoga teaches practitioners many techniques for keeping the mind focused in the present and on the important matters. Breathing control is the foundation that yoga builds upon. Once you have mastered your breathing, you can move on to mastering the other muscle groups of your body. You’d be surprised how much focus it requires to take active control of a reflex that you’ve been repeating since you were born.

If you want to begin learning yoga, it is useful to have an outfit to practice in. Yoga teaches flexibility, and you will want clothing that accommodates that. After all, it’s no good for your body to be able to do the splits if your pants won’t let it do them without ripping! So there are two routes you can go for yoga clothing in general, and pants specifically. You can buy garments that are light and loose, to allow yourself plenty of room to move. Or you can buy tight elastic clothing that is form fitting but will stretch with you to any position you can attain. Many people prefer the latter style, but it is by no means required to practice yoga.

You may wonder why so many doctors will talk to their patients about something such as yoga; especially when confronted with seemingly unrelated issues. It is because yoga promotes mental wellbeing, something that modern America doesn’t emphasize nearly enough. If your body is healthy but your mind is in trouble, it will cause problems. High blood pressure can be caused simply by anger or stress, and that’s just one example of the mind affecting an otherwise healthy body. Yoga will help you control both your body and your mind, bringing them into harmony.
