Yoga has a rich and lengthy history that reaches all the way back to
ancient times. The beginning of Yoga can be traced to ancient India.
Back then yoga was used as a form of mediation. It was meant to foster
spiritual growth.
Yoga’s specific history is believed to date back more than five
thousand years to the Indus Valley civilization. Yoga was practiced
to unite the transitory self with the eternal self. It was also meant
to be practiced in order to unite mind, body, and soul.
Today, yoga is practiced around the world as a form of mediation, training,
and exercise. Yoga is known to have many health benefits. Some of these
benefits include increased flexibility, increased strength, heightened
self awareness, joy, and peace.
Presently, yoga training has different degrees of difficulty. Beginning
students can start with simple instruction in basic poses and exercises.
This instruction is often via a teacher in a class or on a DVD.
Some students opt to attend classes at a yoga studio or a gym. Choosing
to attend a class is a great way to learn additional yoga skills. Classes
can cater to all skills levels from the beginning to the advanced. Also,
in a class students can get a more personalized workout because the
instructor can tailor poses and movements to fit a particular student’s
needs.
DVDs are another useful choice for learning yoga. They offer complete
instruction in yoga. And the best part is that students can work at
their own pace instead of having to keep up with a class.
If the choice is made to attend a yoga class, than workout supplies
will be needed in order to participate. The most basic yoga supplies
include: a mat, a block, and a strap. Some students will bring all of
these supplies to their class. However, instructors and/ or yoga studios
will often have supplies available for rent or use. This fact makes
a class convenient for even the busiest of people.
Prior to beginning any workout routine, one should become familiar
with the equipment and supplies that are needed to successfully train.
For yoga, there are certain items that are needed to have a great workout
at home or in a studio. Some of these items include: a mat, a strap,
a block, a bag, a blanket, and a yoga ball.
Yoga is a discipline that it takes a long time to fully understand.
A student may work and study for years and still not reach an advanced
level. Though we have covered some basic information on this site, there
is plenty more to learn.
